Cushing Library Hosts Books and
Printing Workshop

The Cushing Memorial Library and Archives at Texas A&M University will host a workshop Sunday-Friday (May 19-24) on the history of books and printing. Organized and led by Steven Escar Smith, director of the Cushing Library, the course combines labs and seminars to offer participants hands-on experience, as well as a broad historical survey of the field.

Participants will observe type cast as it was in Gutenberg's day and will set type and print on a reproduction 18th century printing press, according to Smith. The morning and afternoon sessions are limited to those who have registered for the workshop. The evening lectures, which begin at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the Cushing Library, are free and open to the public. For more information, see the workshop web site at:    http://library.tamu.edu/cushing/bookhistory/index.html.
