Military maps of Texas from 1689 to the Texas Revolution form the subject matter of the 2002 Aggie Muster volume selected by the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives. The two volume work, Shooting the Sun: Cartographic Results of Military Activities in Texas, 1629-1829 by Jack Jackson, is a special limited edition of an elephant folio. The scholarly production focuses on the interior mapping of Texas beginning with the appearance of Captain Alonso de Leon, first governor of Coahuila. Jean and Don Kaspar of Shiner, donors of the Muster volume, established the tradition of commemorating Muster each year with a rare volume on Texas history. The volume is housed in Cushing Memorial Library where it will be displayed during the weeks following Muster.
