Francis Moore

Moore, Francis, fl. 1744.

Travels into the inland parts of Africa : containing a description of the several nations for the space of six hundred miles up the river Gambia ... to which is added Capt. Stibbs's voyage up the Gambia in the year 1723 ... also extracts from the Nubian's geography, Leo the African and other authors ... concerning the Niger Nile, or Gambia ... -- 2nd ed. -- London : Printed by D. Henry and R. Cave, <1740?>

Moore was a well-educated factor in the Royal African Company, who set off on his voyage in 1730. This work, which first appeared in 1738, consists in large part of excerpts from other sources, such as Leo Africanus' Renaissance work on the geographical history of Africa and the accounts of Prince Job, a celebrated African who visited England in 1733. Moore's travels into Africa form the first part of the book.
