John Ogilby

Ogilby, John, 1600-1676.

Africa : being an accurate description of the regions of Aegypt, Barbary, Lybia, and Billedulgerid. London : T. Johnson, 1670.

John Ogilby was an editor, translator, and publisher whose work ranged from translations of Homer to his ambitious series of books on geography and topography, intended to describe the entire world. This volume was the third in that series.

A highlight of Ogilby's edition is this detailed map, which shows the state of European geographical knowledge of Africa in the late seventeenth century.
