Duplication Services
Many of the materials in this department are extremely fragile. Therefore, certain materials - bound newspapers, tightly bound volumes, early manuscripts, and fragile materials, for example - will not be reproduced if the procedure will in any way injure the materials. The decision to prohibit reproduction will be made by the staff member at the reference desk; this decision is final.

Certain materials cannot be copied because of restrictions placed upon the item by the donor or agency of origin. Hand-held copiers or scanners are not permitted. In every case of reproduction, copyright law (Title 17 of the U.S. Code) and the doctrine of educational fair use (Section 107 of H.R. 2223) applies.

Although the Cushing Memorial Library possesses the physical property rights to the materials in its collections, literary and artistic property rights normally reside with the creator or the creator's heirs or executors. It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain the necessary permissions prior to publication. The Cushing Memorial Library may require proof of such permissions.

Requests for duplication services should be made at the reference desk. Orders will not be completed on a while-you-wait basis. Every attempt will be made to complete photocopy requests in a timely manner. Please note that large orders may take longer.  Also, delays have occurred due to malfunctioning equipment or workflow issues at out-sourced locations.

Photocopies:

The normal turnaround time is 24 hours. Exceptions are granted for requests of 7 pages or less. Large orders may take several days to process. The cost is 20 cents per page. Photocopies can be picked up or mailed; if mailed there may be a shipping and handling fee. The procedure for photocopy reproduction is as follows:

  1. Please complete the photocopy request form.
  2. Please be sure library staff are aware of what needs to be copied.
  3. Please do not remove original material from folders. Turn the pages you would like copied perpendicular to the other pages in the folder. This will ensure the materials remain in order. For bound volumes (if it is permissible for the volume(s) to be copied) write the pages you would like copied on the photocopy request form.
Photographic reproductions:

Photographic reproductions may be provided from selected pages of original photographs, books, or manuscripts. Please consult the staff member at the reference desk for the proper procedure.
A photographic reproduction, under normal circumstances, will take from 3 to 7 business days. Researchers planning to reproduce their photographs in publications or for display on merchandise (t-shirts, etc.) should consult the desk staff member as publication fees may be charged.

Digital Scans:

Digital scans can be requested.  This service will take 3 to 5 days.  The cost is $5.00 per scan, plus a $3.00 fee for the CD.

VHS Duplications:

VHS tapes of various athletic events are available at $10.00 per tape.  Please consult the list .  Some tapes are copyright protected, therefore only available for viewing in the reading room.  This service takes 5 to 7 days.
