s you may
know from reading past articles in the Archives section of the Texas
Aggie, Texas A&M university is preparing to refurbish and
restore the Cushing Memorial Library as a home for Special Collections,
Manuscripts and Archives. As part of this process we have
been looking for interior photographs of the venerable old
structure.
Unfortunately there are very few in our files and
seemingly none taken during the 1930's. Many former students
can remember the murals painted by Marie Haines but no
photographic evidence of them has as yet been discovered. If
you or anyone you know has such photographs we would be very
interested in hearing about them. For that matter, we would
like to hear about any historic photographs that our readers may
have.
The Archives can always use your help in preserving
the rich and vibrant history of Texas A&M. In fact, we
have included photographs here that we need help identifying.
For any of you that may have an interest in the
Cushing Library, we have prepared a brief history of the building
that we would be happy to make available to you. Cushing Under
Cover, published by the Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library,
is an attractive sixteen page booklet with text, drawings and rare
photographs. Should you desire a copy, please contact me at:
