Vietnam Generation

   During the 1980's Terry Anderson began research on the 1960s. He, and some students, began conducting interviews with individuals who were instrumental during the period from Kennedy to Watergate. The following interviews concern a number of issues: civil rights, anti-war movement, women's liberation, student demonstrations and protests. For Vietnam topics also consult Military History. Most interviews have been transcribed and all are open.

Adams, Jim
   Southern Baptist minister discusses the effect of the Civil Rights Movement on Southern Baptist Churches. Interviewed by Matthew Moran, April 20, 1993. One tape. Indexed.

Baer, Judith

Corbett, Robert

Coughlin, Walt
   Former member of the United States Secret Service. In Vietnam on three occasions between 1965-7 to protect Vice-president Hubert Humphrey. Curti, Merle
   Frederick Jackson Turner Chair of American History at the University of Wisconsin, 1940s to 1968, discussed student activism and protests at the University of Wisconsin during the 1960's, McCarthyism at Berkeley andWisconsin during the 1950's, historians at Harvard in the 1920's (where he was a graduate student) and his views on major changes in the history profession. Davenport, Manuel M.
   Describes the 1960's counterculture and the social movements at Colorado State University. Interviewed by Stephen Woods, December 3, 1990. One tape. Indexed.

Doan, Rick
   Refugee of the Vietnam War, describes the fall of Saigon, childhood home, and the capture and placement of his father in a concentration camp. Narrates his family's escape to Thailand and America and the pending release of his father, who remains in Vietnam. Interviewed by Darren Rudolph, March 27, 1986. 21 pages.

Franks, Lawrence

Henh, Cheng
   Graduated from the Lycee Sisowath and the National Business College in Phnom Penh in late 1930's. Vice President of the National Assembly, and President of Cambodia in 1960's. Hoover, Larry
   Professor of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University who worked as a police officer for the Lansing, Michigan Police Department. Kinross-Wright, John
   Director of Texas Institute for Mental Sciences, 1967. Commissioner for Mental Health for Texas, 1967-1970, and expert in chemotherapy and hallucinogenic drugs. Kniffin, John W.
   Vietnam, 1965-8, and later Texas State Coordinator for the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Tried for conspiracy during the Republican National Convention of 1972 and was acquitted. Opinions on war, infiltration of VVAW by the FBI. Interviewed by Jan Smith Goodwin, April 13, 1986. 13 pages.

McRae, Duncan Bus

Nuckols, Dr. Tom
   Professor at Austin College, Sherman, Texas, discusses his involvement with the North Carolina Volunteer's program in the early 1960's, which attempted to help poor blacks and integrate local schools.    Organizer and leader of an ad hoc committee against the Vietnam War at Southwest Texas State University. Emphasis on organizing the movement, response from the administration, and repression ofstudent opinions.
