Physical Description of the Papers

       Part III of the William A. Owens papers consists of eighteen boxes and 30 unboxed books, occupying approximately twenty-eight feet of shelf space. Included in Part III are personal correspondence, from 1964 through 1988, essays, manuscripts, photographs, research for books, and articles. Also included is one shelf of books from William A. Owens' personal collection.

       The papers have been divided into the following categories: personal correspondence (1964 - 1988), short stories and articles, This Stubborn Soil, Wildcatter, Look to the River, Tell Me a Story, Sing Me a Song, Historic Texas, Eye Deep in Hell, work by other authors, Cleaver and Witherspoon family genealogy, Letters of Roy Bedichek, Three Friends, videotapes of Owens's work, photographs, and books from Owens' collection of works on folklore and folk music. The correspondence has been arranged alphabetically by letter of the alphabet and chronologically within each letter.
