The Butterfly Ranch"The Learmonth's came over on the Mariposa, this was the name of the ship they were on from Australia to the United States. When they first were looking over the territory and trying to decide where to locate the headquarters, there was a spring there and the Learmonth's noticed a lot of yellow butterflies around this spring and asked their guide, one of the Mexicans, what they were called in Spanish. The guide told them 'mariposa', so with the coincidence of the name of the ship and butterflies around the spring, they decided to call it The Mariposa Ranch." Alden Scott McKellar
