"The paintings I have presented to Texas A&M University were carefully collected by my father, Max A. Krueger, during his travels in Europe. His collection consisted of 100 paintings, all of the old school and all of excellent quality. They were exhibited in San Antonio for many years. After his death in 1927, my mother gave about one-half of the collection to her children and grandchildren. Upon her death in 1949, I acquired the balance of the collection from my family. For many years, I have wanted to do something of lasting benefit for Texas A&M University, its students and staff. As a 1912 graduate, I am grateful for all the University did for me in preparing me for what I hope has been and will continue to be a useful life. The University Library was chosen as a permanent home for
the paintings in the belief that more students would have an opportunity to see them and that the
quiet atmosphere of the library would be conducive to the study and enjoyment of the paintings. It is
my earnest hope that many will derive an appreciation of art from these paintings. If only a few
viewers learn to better appreciate the artists' portrayals in these paintings and thus find their
lives enriched and their views broadened, then I shall feel deeply rewarded.
