Francois Boucher

The Infant Moses Being Presented 
to Pharaoah's Daughter

    Francois Boucher, who was born in Paris in 1703, began his studies under Le Moine who created the famous ceiling frescoes at the Versailles Palace. He was the favorite artist of Madame de Pompadour whose portrait is in the national gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. He was appointed painter to the Court of Louis XV in 1765. In addition to portraits, his favorite subjects were classical mythology and the Bible. His most important paintings hang in the Louvre in Paris, and these include "Venus in the Forge" and "Diana after Bathing." He died in Paris in 1770.
